You’ve just recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree or have been working for a few years and now feel it’s time for you to continue your Master’s degree? Choose Germany!

For applying to a Master’s degree programme at a German university, applicants from Malaysia (both local and international students) are generally required to have a Bachelor’s degree with good results from an internationally recognised university.

The chosen Master’s degree programme must be closely related to the Bachelor’s subject. The majority of Master’s programmes offered in Germany take about two years (4 semesters) but there are also some programmes with a shorter duration. After receiving your Master’s degree, you can continue studying for the next academic qualification – the doctoral degree.

Is Master's Degree taught in German?

Most of the Master’s Degree courses are taught in English. Hence,proficiency in English (TOEFL 550/213 or IELTS 6.0) is required.

However, there are also courses taught in German or 50/50 (German/English)

  • Procedure 1: Applications are made directly to the university of your choice free of charge
  • Procedure 2: Applications for over 100 universities have to be made via Uni-Assist (Application Services for International Students)Detailed information on the website of the respective university!

When is the application deadline?

Deadline

  • Application window for Winter semester: ususally end of May to mid-July.
  • Application window for Summer semester: ususally early December to mid-January.

Am I allowed to work in Germany as a student?

Yes, you are allowed!

While studying:

  • 120 fill-days (8hr/day)/ per year
  • or 240 half-days (4hr/day)

For “on campus” jobs, you may work as many hours without restriction.

After your graduation:
graduates can stay on for another 18 months after graduation in order to look for a job that matches their qualification
